10 Short-Form Video Ideas Any Small Business Can Film This Month

Short-form video is one of the easiest ways to show your business to new people, and you do not need a studio. A modern phone, good light and a clear idea are enough.
Here are ten ideas you can film this month, with an example hook for each so you know how to start.
Before you film: five basics
- Shoot vertical. Film in 9:16 so the video fills the screen on Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
- Use natural light. Face a window. It helps more than any equipment.
- Hook in the first second. Start with the most interesting moment or a clear promise, not a logo.
- Add captions. Plenty of people watch with the sound off, and captions make your message clear either way.
- Keep it short. One idea per video. If you need to say more, make a second video.
Ten ideas
1. Behind the scenes
Show how your work really happens: setting up, preparing, packing orders or a typical morning. People enjoy seeing the real process.
Hook: “Here is what happens before we open.”
2. A service demo
Walk through what you do in 20 to 40 seconds. Show one step clearly instead of rushing through everything.
Hook: “This is how we do it in under a minute.”
3. Before and after
Transformations are naturally watchable: a cleaned space, a styled home, a finished project, a new look.
Hook: “Watch this go from start to finish.”
4. One question, one answer
Pick a question customers ask all the time and answer it directly to the camera.
Hook: “People ask me this every week.”
5. Myth versus fact
Choose a common misunderstanding in your industry and correct it kindly.
Hook: “You have probably been told this, and it is not quite true.”
6. A customer story
With their permission, share what a customer needed and how you helped. A short testimonial clip works well.
Hook: “She came to us with this problem.”
7. Meet the team
Introduce one person per video: who they are, what they do and one fun fact. It turns a business into a group of real people.
Hook: “Meet the person who looks after your order.”
8. A 30-second tip
One practical tip your audience can use today. Useful videos get saved and shared.
Hook: “A quick tip for anyone who has this problem.”
9. A day in the life
A fast-cut tour of one working day, with a line of text on screen for each moment.
Hook: “A day at our place in 30 seconds.”
10. Product or service in use
Show the result in real life, not just a product on a table: someone using it, wearing it, tasting it or benefiting from it.
Hook: “This is what it looks like in real life.”
Writing captions for video
The video does the main work, and the caption supports it. Keep it simple:
- Say what the video is about in the first line.
- Add one useful detail the video did not have time to show.
- Finish with one action, such as follow, save, visit or book.
Add a few relevant hashtags, and do not stuff the caption with them.
A simple editing checklist
- Cut the pauses at the start and the end
- Keep each shot short so the video keeps moving
- Add captions and check the spelling
- Make sure the first frame looks interesting on its own
- End with a clear next step
Turn ten ideas into a month
If you post four videos a month, film all of them in one afternoon and spread them across the weeks. If you post eight or twelve, repeat the ideas with different examples. Ten ideas can easily become thirty videos about different customers, products and tips.
Common mistakes
- Starting with a long intro
- Poor sound: film in a quiet space and keep the phone close
- Too many ideas in one video
- No call to action: tell viewers what to do next, such as follow, visit or book
- Posting once and quitting: it takes a series of videos to learn what your audience likes
Want someone else to handle it?
