Social Media Ideas for Local Service Businesses (Plumbers, Cleaners, Salons and More)

A booking calendar, a five-star review and service icons

If you run a local service business, you already know that most of your work comes from trust and from being nearby. Social media can do both jobs: it shows people who you are, and it keeps you in mind for the day they need you.

The good news is that you do not need to be creative or funny. You just need to show your work and answer questions. Here are twelve ideas.

Twelve post ideas

  1. Before and after. A photo or short video of a finished job. This is the most natural post a service business has.
  2. Meet the crew. One person per post: name, role and one friendly detail.
  3. A day on the job. A quick video of what you do from morning to finish.
  4. Signs it is time to call us. Three signs a customer should not ignore, such as a slow drain or a worn-out filter.
  5. Answer a common question. The one you hear on every first call.
  6. Review of the week. A kind customer review with a caption about the job.
  7. A seasonal checklist. Get ready for winter, spring cleaning, summer events or holiday bookings.
  8. Local shout-outs. Feature a neighboring business, a local event or a community cause.
  9. Open slots and offers. A simple, clear post when you have availability or a special.
  10. Behind the scenes of your process. Show your tools, your safety steps and how you keep a clean job site.
  11. Common mistakes. Things people do themselves that make the job harder, shared kindly and without blaming anyone.
  12. How we work. What happens from the first call to a finished job, so new customers know what to expect.

Make it local

  • Tag your location on posts and stories.
  • Mention the areas you serve in your bio and in the occasional post.
  • Keep your Google Business Profile up to date. Photos, hours and replies to reviews all help nearby customers find you.
  • Reply to every review, good and bad, politely and quickly.

Make it easy to act

Every post should leave the reader knowing the next step. Keep it simple: call, message, book or tap the link in your bio. If your bio link goes to a booking page or a short form, even better.

A weekly rhythm

You do not need to post every day. A simple pattern:

  • One before-and-after or job post: shows the work
  • One tip or answer: shows you are an expert
  • One people or community post: shows you are a real, local business

That is about three posts a week, or roughly 12 a month. If you want help deciding how much to post, our guide to how often a small business should post walks through it.

Photos and video: keep it real

You do not need a professional shoot. Take photos in good light, wipe the lens, and shoot vertical for video. People prefer a real photo of your real work over a polished stock image. For video ideas that need nothing more than a phone, see our short-form video ideas.

Handle reviews well

Reviews are social content, too. When one comes in:

  1. Say thank you and mention something specific about the job.
  2. Respond to a bad review calmly. Acknowledge the problem, say what you will do and offer to talk offline.
  3. Do not argue in public. Future customers are watching how you respond.
  4. Share the good ones as posts or stories, with permission if you quote a name.

Common mistakes

  • Posting only offers and never anything useful
  • Showing finished work but never the people who did it
  • Using stock photos instead of real ones
  • Not saying where you work or which areas you serve
  • Posting for two weeks and then going quiet

When you are too busy

This is the most common reason local businesses stop posting. If the job always comes first, which it should, consider handing the content to someone else. Our done-for-you plans cover the planning, the designing, the writing and the scheduling, from 12 posts a month for $99, and you approve everything before it goes live. Services is one of the industries we create content for, and you can see our work in the examples.
